GENERAL FAMILIARISATION COURSES
- Mechanics course: Designed for those with existing engineering skills developed in a non- aircraft related engineering environment. This course provides an overview of aircraft systems and maintenance processes, and basic hand skills such as metal shaping and forming, wire locking and general aircraft handling. The normal duration of this course is 4 weeks.
- Aeronautical maintenance fundamentals: Designed for those new to the industry, such as graduates from schools, colleges or non-engineering backgrounds, this course builds on the same model as the Mechanics course. He course places greater emphasis on the development of basic engineering skills, with approximately 50% of the course being used for practical work. The normal duration is 12 weeks.
- Helicopter maintenance fundamentals: Similar to the Aeronautical Fundamentals course, this is designed for those new to the helicopter industry. The course offers theoretical and practical training in all aspects of helicopter engineering and the unique problems encountered by rotorcraft. The normal duration is 12 weeks.
COURSES FOR CERTIFYING STAFF
Approved IR Part 66 Courses
AST is approved by the UKCAA under IR Part 147 for training and examination to meet the knowledge requirements of the IR Part 66, Aircraft Maintenance Licence (AML) in all currently available A and B Categories, further details of these courses are given below.
EASA Part 66 licence courses
EASA Part 66 Category A licence course either as:
- Full approved course lasting 29 weeks.
- Modular course which, if completed as one block, is over a period of 12 weeks, or can be completed as individual modules.
EASA Part 66 Category B licence course either as:
- Full approved course lasting 89 weeks.
- Modular course which, if completed as one block, is over a period of approximately 26 weeks, or can be completed as individual modules.
